How many charge points are there in the UK? How fast are they increasing in number?
Zapmap, who provide a UK-wide map of electric car charging points for use by EV drivers, has reported that recently the total count of public charging stations in the UK has exceeded 73,000.
This significant achievement comes just five months after they noted a figure of 60,000 in April 2024. Currently, there are 73,699 public chargers available for electric vehicle (EV) users in the UK, marking a 41% increase compared to September 2023.
These chargers are distributed across 37,011 locations, with over 14,000 classified as rapid or ultra-rapid chargers found at 5,850 sites. The rate of installation has been on an upward trajectory; monthly installations jumped from an average of 730 in 2022 to 1,650 in 2024.
Charging hubs featuring six or more rapid or ultra-rapid chargers have more than doubled to reach a total of 537 hubs. Greater London has 22,211 public charging points, accounting for about 41% of the UK’s total public chargers.
